We Didn’t Start the Fire…

Standard

It was always burning since the world’s been turning. Those are few of the lyrics from the song “We Didn’t Start the Fire” from Billy Joel. The words come to mind as I enter the Love Revolution with the ministry of Joyce Meyer. Joyce describes the Love Revolution in the following way: A movement of people committed to intentionally spreading the love of God through simple acts of kindness every day. She challenges us to do something for someone else—big or small—like buy someone’s coffee, take your neighbor a meal, write an encouraging note, or clean up your neighborhood. No, we (present generation) did not start the fire of love as this has been God’s will since the beginning. However, I feel like the fire has gone out in our ever present world and needs to be ignited once again!

I, with the help of a godly friend, am challenging myself to exhibit random simple acts of kindness daily. For instance, I reached out and showed some love to a particular person who is not very fond of me. I also, took my neighbor’s dog for a walk. I am not going to stop there. I pray daily for God to show me what I can do for Him. And trust me, He answers! Whether it be in Target, at the grocery store, or in my own personal relationships.

Ephesians 4:2 says, “Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.”

Love never gives up. Love cares more for others than for self. Love doesn’t want what is doesn’t have. Love doesn’t strut, doesn’t have a swelled head, doesn’t force itself on others, isn’t always me first, doesn’t fly off the handle, doesn’t keep score of the sins of others, doesn’t revel when others grovel, takes pleasure in the flowering of the truth, puts up with anything, trusts God always, always looks for the best, never looks back, but keeps going to the end!

If you’re wondering if you are walking in love, insert your name for “love” in the scripture above (a little trick I learned from author Francis Chan). You will quickly see the path you are following.

Take inventory and choose where you want to go! Hopefully, you will join me on the love revolution.

Love in Christ,
Nichole
